WHAT CAN I EAT (OR DO) TO BOOST MY IMMUNE SYSTEM?

Boost your immune system and stay healthy by eating organic fruit and veg! We had a look at this last blog but it is SO, SO important! Difficult to find, expensive? Well, you could grow it yourself and that would make it even healthier! (exercise?) Get a few ideas from these two links.

The Edible Garden Show and Good Life Live-
11th-13th March 2016 - Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire

A group of us are off to this show and expect to come back with loads of ideas.  It is the UK's only event dedicated to grow-your-own & provides plot to plate inspiration and more!

It will soon be time to start planting the seeds I saved.... but think again!!!! A little mouse has been living in the shed and feasting on my seeds!
And the runner beans I put in a plastic tub - not a good idea - went rotten. Best find a drawer in the bedroom at the end of the season.

Garden centre here I come!

Congratulations Asda on your wonky veg boxes

We asked them to do it and they have! I was going to say please buy one to support them! BUT when I went today (13th Feb Newark store) they had sold out! So public opinion does count and farmers with wonky veg or fruit won't be put out of business by the supermarkets refusing their stuff. However, we need to keep the pressure up and keep asking for more!

AND FOOD WASTE? This has gone international. Well done all who are involved!

Do you know? The Real Junk Food Projects, founded by chef Adam Smith, are now a global, organic network of pay as you feel cafes. Food, destined for waste, is diverted to create delicious and healthy meals.

Below are last year's figures for all of the PAYF cafes, showing how well they have done!

Intercepted 264 tons of food
Fed 102 thousand people
Made 124 thousand meals, and
Made £193,000 in PAYF donations

The founder of a quietly-growing empire of social cafes has called on a change in the law to prevent the UK’s "criminal" levels of food waste - especially by supermarkets - while so many go hungry.

Adam Smith, founder of The Real Junk Food Project, in Armley, Leeds, feeds his punters on goods that would otherwise have been thrown away by supermarkets, independent grocers and food banks.

OUR COOKERY CLUB BEGAN WELL
NEXT MEETING 10TH MARCH

with demo of a Spirallizer - and the spiralled courgettes topped with Chorizo & Chickpea Stew (I think 'cos I haven't tried the recipe yet)

PLUS a Nutribullet demo with a glorious nutritious smoothie to try - it's not a juicer, it's healthier!

brokenlightcollective.com - an upside-down world

It's a bit of a 'topsy-turvy' world today! Perhaps, like me, you're apprehensive about putting on the news your peace undermined by what you hear, making you feel sick in your stomach, nervous for your family! It's then I need to be reassured by God that He knows about it and is in control! That's why I turn to my Bible - God's Word, His promises.

Today I read from Psalm 119 in The Message Bible (I can understand this translation 'cos it's in everyday language) verse 89-91 says:

"What you say goes, God,
and stays, as permanent as the heavens.
Your truth never goes out of fashion;
it’s as up-to-date as the earth when the sun comes up.
Your Word and truth are dependable as ever;
that’s what you ordered—you set the earth going."

I like to finish with a hug so what's more topical than a
'carrot hug' - we love you too wonky veg!

Have an enjoyable February, especially Valentine's Day.
                                  God bless, Tracey
