WHY DID A PILE OF PARSNIPS MAKE VIEWERS ANGRY!

Here's why!.....................

DID YOU SEE THE PROGRAMME?

TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is having a war on waste. His new programme Hugh’s War On Waste aims to tackle the issue of how much food and household waste is being chucked out, both by us at home and by corporations such as supermarkets and fast food restaurants.

He went through people's bins the first episode, offered them cooking tips with their leftovers and visited a recycling plant – but there was one moment that particularly resonated with viewers. The supermarkets were demanding a certain size and shape of parsnip and all those that didn't 'shape-up' were destroyed - see above!

So up to 40% of the Hammonds’ root veg never makes it to the shops. In fact, there’s nothing they can do with it – it just gets chucked away. Now they've gone out of business!

Did we do it? We've allowed supermarkets to dictate how we buy stuff - I don't mind mishapen fruit and veg - in fact I will ask them for it now, will you?

British cucumbers on brink of extinction, say growers

The British cucumber is facing extinction, the latest victim of a supermarket price war that has knocked retail prices down from 90p to less than 30p in some stores.

“Nobody in the supply chain is making anything from the production and sale of cucumbers. Without an increase in returns the British cucumber industry won’t be endangered – it will be extinct,” quote from Cucumber Growers Association.

So, now, no British cucumbers? What else are we going to give up to save a penny or two?

YOU KNOW HOW I LOVE MY SHED! WELL, WHAT ABOUT THIS BOOK THEN - 'DARK NIGHT OF THE SHED' BY NICK PAGE!

Written for men but  a lady journalist said how much she enjoyed this book 'cos she worked out of a similar 'property' in her garden - so do I!

Also said she thought us ladies should be respected for our mid-life crisis - so do I!

Although I haven't yet purchased a copy for myself it is on my Christmas list (anyone watching?)

Is Google's driverless car a fair weather friend?

Thanks 'Embarrassing Bodies' for telling us about Bram and how fantastic he is! So, let's think on when we're feeling sorry for ourselves!

Locked In Syndrome

Bram, a 35 year old Disk Jockey who has a condition known as Locked In Syndrome. Bram was paralysed in a cycling accident and can’t speak, but is able to communicate in other ways. He has a computer controlled by his eye, which allows him to select words and letters. The computer then reads out Bram’s words for him. He can also do other things using the computer, such as browsing the web and choosing the playlists for his radio show.

Thanks too for the techno wizzards who made this possible.

As far burdens go, Bram has a lot to put up with! Jesus tells us to come to him when we are weary and feel we are carrying a heavy load. He says to put His yoke on - meaning He will pull with us and share our load.

Wickpedia - bow yokes on a bullock team

However, He's not offering a deckchair and a drink by the pool - the yoke is still an oxen's tool for working hard - but it's a special kind of yoke, with weight falling on bigger shoulders than ours, someone with more pulling power is up front helping (if you let Him!)

Suddenly you're sharing life's responsibilities with a great Partner and now that frown can turn into a smile and that grumble into a song!

Will this do for a hug this time?
