THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY!

THIS IS GOOD!

18 months ago, Monsanto's vast chemical-agricultural empire was rock solid.
Now, after over 2 million of us ran 20 campaigns, with millions of signatures, messages, phone calls, stunts, advocacy meetings and media stories... the future of the 'Monsanto model' is actually in question!!

The European Union just refused to grant Monsanto a new license for its flagship product - the pesticide glyphosate. This is massive - glyphosate accounts for up to a third of all Monsanto's revenue!
"Looking to where we were in the beginning of this year and where we are now, Avaaz is indisputably the driving force of the fight for glyphosate discontinuance."

YES, IT'S MONSANTO AGAIN!

THEY ARE BAD AND THEY ARE UGLY
but it looks like the EU are standing up to them

WHO'S THERE WHEN THE SPOTLIGHT GOES?

Oxfam are - they support and stay!

It's all too easy to forget what a miracle water is. With a water supply on tap, food can grow, and people can thrive.

When conflict breaks out and natural disasters strike, entire communities are affected.

Humanitarian short term aid is to alleviate suffering during the immediate aftermath of an emergency but long term crucial aid, it still goes on.
What people often forget is the ongoing efforts from charities and countries long after the cameras have gone home and the suffering is out of the spotlight.
The countless amazing volunteers, charities and government support are still at work assisting the affected areas months and often years after the disaster.

THE DISASTERS ARE BAD AND UGLY BUT
THE VOLUNTEERS AND THE CHARITIES WHO STAY - THEY ARE THE GOOD!

I saw on Sky news this week - Ten people with an inherited form of blindness will be fitted with "bionic eye" implants in a procedure funded by NHS England.

Keith Hayman, from Lancashire, had the bionic eye fitted during a trial at the Manchester hospital in 2009
He said: "Having spent half my life in darkness, I can now tell when my grandchildren run towards me and make out lights twinkling on Christmas trees.
This has to be good too!

Professor Paul Dobson, from the University of East Anglia concluded that unhealthy foods receive too much promotion from supermarkets, and said the food industry must do more to promote healthy living.

Now this is the best news ever:
Last June Medical Professionals were invited to a conference in London on the place of food in the diet.
It was sold out!!!
The question was 'could food be the forgotten medicine'? With a failing NHS can we find a way of using our everyday diets to replace the need for colossally expensive and intrusive medicines - all of which have side effects?
Medical  Professionals are now paying attention to the fact that 'food' may be a medicine (we are what we eat maybe?). Not their fault as they have very little tuition on the place of diet in healing the body during their years of training.

UK College of Medicine
Proper diet is a fundamental building block to good health, yet many practitioners lack the basic expertise in nutrition to recommend dietary strategies to their patients. To meet this growing need, this conference will provide them with essential information on:

• Practical strategies for incorporating nutrition into their clinical practice
• Using diet to prevent illness
• Nutritional recommendations for management of specific conditions
• Tools to evaluate the latest nutrition research findings
• Social and political aspects of diet and health
The conference provided an overview and practical summary of the latest information on nutrition and health, presented by leaders in scientific research, clinicians skilled in nutritional medicine, experts on food and agricultural policy, and innovative chefs.

However this tops the lot for me :

Science Proves the Healing Power of Prayer

For the devout, there never has been any question that prayer has the power to heal.

Now, more and more medical research from leading hospitals and universities, has shown conclusively a belief in God really IS good for you, making you healthier and happier, and helping you live longer.

“Studies have shown prayer can prevent people from getting sick — and when they do get sick, prayer can help them get better faster,” Duke University’s Harold G. Koenig, M.D., tells Newsmax Health.
